Today we’re announcing the beta release and seed fundraising round of SuppCo, a new platform to help you make sense of the complex, sprawling landscape of supplements, a $200 billion-a-year industry, and build a plan that’s optimized to your lifestyle and health goals.
We believe there needs to be a better way to navigate this complicated pillar of personal health, to cut through the snake oil and confusion, and give you a way to make supplements work for you. Our software platform and mobile apps are designed to be your companion on this journey and connect you to a collective movement of people who want to use supplements to be healthier.
This self-directed health movement is a core belief of Union Square Ventures and True Ventures, who have led a $5.5 million round in SuppCo along with Box Group, Compound and a group of friends & family.
Our mission is to help you be healthier through supplements. This is a bigger challenge than it may sound. There are so many steps to making supplements work. First, you need to figure out what to take and, most importantly, why. What can this supplement, or combination of supplements, do for me? Once you've built a plan with health goals, you need to determine which products from which brands are at the right intersection of quality, price, and form for you. Then you've got to make sure to take them the right way. Is it with food? Morning or night? Do they interact with any other medications? Finally, you have to track your results. Most people stop taking a supplement in the first 30 days, often before any measurable effect can be seen.
SuppCo takes all these important variables, steps, and measurements and streamlines the entire process, making it as easy and efficient as possible to build your supplement stack and stick to your plan.
You can build and access your stack via SuppCo's mobile app or website and easily share it with your doctor, nutritionist, health coach, or anyone you want to keep updated on your journey. Soon, we'll have more social and interactive features, including community spaces for users with similar goals and pain points to follow Protocols together and collaborate on their progress. Here's mine:
When it comes to our business model, we're working on something we think is truly unique and aligned with your health objectives. As much as we love supplements, we think the industry has some deep flaws, particularly when it comes to transparency, and isn't always operating in the customer's best interest.
My co-founder Nick built two supplement start-ups the right way, and experienced the industry's misalignment with the customer firsthand. There are too many products of questionable quality on the market, sold at too high of a margin. There are undisclosed endorsements, minimal customer loyalty programs, and constant promises that are way too big being made without data to back them up. We want to be aligned with you as you navigate your journey and be just as happy when you stop taking something that isn't working as when you embark on trying something new. So look out in 2025 for a new model that is designed to be transparent and accessible.
Until then, everything you find on SuppCo is free. We don't sell your data to 3rd parties. We have affiliate links on our product pages, but our content is independent and we aren't counting on them to pay the bills. We're confident in our future co-op-like membership model and have raised money from top venture capitalists in the industry who share our values and support our obsession with doing the right thing for the customer. I've worked with Union Square and True Ventures for over a decade, and never once have I been pushed to make decisions that didn't further the long-term mission of the business. You can read about their thoughts on SuppCo here and here.
SuppCo is inspired by my own health journey, which you can read about here. As I began sharing the idea with friends, family, and colleagues, it became clear that navigating the supplement world was a widespread challenge, and topics like longevity were now in the cultural zeitgeist. This is part of a bigger shift towards people having agency over their health and making self-directed decisions to prioritize their long-term healthspan.
This beta release is just the beginning, and together we can bring this industry into the future. We want to hear about your experience at every step of the way. What can we do better? What pain points are you struggling with? Where is our data and platform falling short for you? We will fix it. In our small private testing, we've had tens of thousands of products added to users' stacks, and our confidence in our library and data improves every day.
During this beta period, we're also building our relationships with industry and supplement experts, prioritizing doctors, scientists, and nutritionists. If you want to get involved, please reach out at partners@supp.co. You'll be seeing big partnership announcements from the health and wellness community at our launch early next year.
We're so excited you're here. Together, we're going to make sense of supplements.
